Book Review: Fact, Fiction, and Flying Saucers by Stanton T. Friedman & Kathleen Marden

Authors Stanton T. Friedman and Kathleen Marden address the long-standing conspiracy of denial and misinformation about the existence of UFOs in Fact, Fiction, and Flying Saucers: The Truth Behind the Misinformation, Distortion, and Derision by Debunkers, Government Agencies, and Conspiracy Conmen. Written in order to disprove mainstream media reports, restore credibility to scientists, and present the truth about UFOs, this book is full of compelling evidence and excellent data for believers or skeptics.

Throughout this book, Friedman and Marden will discuss the actions taken by outspoken skeptics to discredit those who believe in the validity of UFOs, as well as the potential reasons for doing so. Is the strong opposition due to a political agenda? Something else? Readers will embark on an in-depth discovery to learn why these flying saucer debunking efforts have distracted the general public from the truth about these mysterious encounters.

Enjoy a variety of evidence presented in favor of UFOs, including conversations with top officials, detailed case studies, and scientific evidence that refutes the sometimes laughable explanations like swamp gas and weather balloons given to disprove sightings. Well-written and expertly researched, Fact, Fiction, and Flying Saucers takes on famous UFO cases with the attention and open-mindedness they deserve.

Inside the pages, readers will find large-scale scientific studies and their compelling evidence, a look into modern-day UFOlogy, how the government and media contributes to the “debunking culture” by labeling informed scientists as fanatics and kooks, and the involvement of agencies such as the Air Force, FBI, CIA, and NSA. Above all, this book addresses the core of how and why the subject of UFOs has been ridiculed by UFOlogy experts who have seen the effects of this misinformation first-hand.

If you’re interested in learning more about UFOlogy and it’s complicated history, you can pick up this book in our gift shop after a visit to the museum or right here online.

I've enjoyed any book written by Stanton Friedman and Kathleen Marden. This book looks at the careers of a few hard-core skeptics who spent years attacking Mr. Friedman and Ms. Marden (and for that matter, anyone else who takes flying saucers seriously). In particular like an assignment for university, the book examines the career of Philip J. Klass, who never let the truth get in the way of debunking a UFO report. Friedman and Marden ask: Why were certain radical skeptics so fanatical? What was really behind their manic efforts to destroy the credibility of any UFO researcher? Did they have a political agenda--beyond mere personal animus--for expending the amounts of energy it took to debunk every single flying saucer…
